Silicone products can be used for a lifetime. They resist oxidative deterioration (normal aging) for decades. Furthermore, they can be exposed to extreme heat and cold, which means that they can be used for both the freezer and the hot oven. Unlike other kitchenware materials, silicone is shatter-proof and doesn’t need to be handled with care, which makes it extremely durable.
Silicone is not toxic to aquatic or soil organisms and is considered to be non-hazardous waste. Certain types of silicone are even used in aquariums. While not biodegradable, silicone can be recycled. Recycling services all over the world are expanding the range of materials they collect every year. However, if you’re still having trouble finding a local spot to recycle your silicone popsicle mold, just reach out to us and we’ll find a way to recycle the product on your behalf.
SILICONE VS. PLASTIC
In today’s world where sustainability is becoming more important every day, it’s essential that we find new and more sustainable ways for our everyday practices. One significant aspect of that, is the limiting of plastic (in particular single-use plastic) in our households. It is estimated that 100 billion plastic bags a year are used only in the United States and only 1 percent are returned for recycling. It takes at least 500 years for a plastic bag to degrade in a landfill and unlike our Food Grade silicone, plastics become microplastics which absorb toxins and continue to pollute the environment. Plus, plastics are made from non-renewable resources, whereas silicone is considered a hybrid material which is significantly better in terms of resource extraction.
From a health perspective, silicone is also a lot safer than plastic. Different from many plastic types, our Food Grade silicone is BPA-free. BPA (bisphenol A) is a potentially toxic industrial chemical that has been used to manufacture certain plastics since the 1960s.
There are countless reasons why silicone is the new go-to material for kitchen items. If you care about quality and buying things that last, while also making a positive impact on the environment, you're at the right place. Convince yourself and try out our silicone popsicle molds!
